This series of images was taken during Gold Cup week which is a horse racing event at Cheltenham Racecourse. As well as taking photographs at the racecourse itself, I went back into The Shamrock. I photographed John, his wife and details of his clothing such as his Claddagh ring. I also documented some of the working men that were drinking in there, watching TV and following the racing. Although a lot of them were not actually Irish, I still decided to include the photographs in the final cut as they chose to reside in a typically Irish pub. They also provided a lot of interesting stories, which I would like to record or making into a moving image piece eventually.
I also concentrated on some of the details within the interior, such as the Racing Post (or similar) newspaper resting next to the fish tank, or the light beaming through the cheap drapes in the toilet. I think this small body of work is successful, and provides another thin layer to the ever developing documentation of the Irish community.
